Reflections and Shadows.
Sat at a waterhole in the Timbavati with Hayden and Isaac (my tracker), we patiently waited to see who would come and slake their thirst. After some time with no significant visitors, we noticed a lone Hammerkop patrolling the shoreline looking for late lunch.
Snapping two shots as he swooped over the surface…I never gave it much attention.
Only many days later when processing, did I notice with excitement and surprise that both its reflection and shadow were clearly visible on the water…
Working through my portfolio now that I have the time, I revisited this image and it made me realise how pertinently relevant the symbolism is to our current predicament.
During this time of reflection, do not be surprised or fearful to also notice your shadow…everyone naturally has one. Stepping into the brightness of your authenticity, you should also expect that shadow to be more prominent than when you were hiding in the dark.
We can however, like the hammerkop, soar over ours if we so choose.
May you spread your wings wide and fly strong.
Yours in awareness
